- What is unlocking?
When a wireless carrier sells a phone, majority of the time they "lock" the phone to their respective network. For example, if you purchase a Rogers Blackberry Bold 9900, you can only use the phone with a Rogers SIM card. If you unlock your phone, it will remove the network restriction placed by Rogers and Blackberry. Once unlocked, you can insert the SIM of any compaitble provider (Telus, Bell, ATT, T-Mobile, and etc...)
- Will unlocking my phone void my warranty?
No. Your phone's warranty will not be affected if you unlock your phone using an unlok code (service provided by Mobifree). If you go elsewhere and unlock your phone using software (by plugging your phone into your computer or installing software that will alter your phone, your warranty will be voided).
- How long does it take to unlock a phone?
To unlock a phone it takes under 60 seconds (to enter the unlock code into the phone). However it can be several hour for the unlock code to be generated by Mobifree. Some codes can be generated within seconds, but some do require access to a different database of codes, and that can take upto 24 hours.
- Will I save money by unlocking my phone?
Yes! If you travel outside of your country, your local provider will charge you hefty ROAMING fees. By unlocking your phone, you can purchase pre-paid SIM cardin the country you are travelling to, and save hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars.
- Do you unlock iPhones?
We do not provide iPhone unlock services for any North American carriers
- What is an IMEI?
IMEI in Layperson terms is the serial number of your phone.
- How do I find my IMEI?
Dial *#06# on your phone to obtain your phone's IMEI #.
- How do I enter my unlock code?
Depending on your phone model, if you were to insert a SIM card from a different provider from what the phone was originally locked to, your phone will prompt you for unlock code. Certain phone models require a specific key code. Please contact us for more details.
- Will I have to unlock my phone AGAIN if upgrade the firmware or software of my phone?
No. Once you've unlocked your phone with an unlock code from Mobifree, it is PERMANENTLY unlocked. Even after upgrading or downgrading your software/firmware, your phone will remain unlocked.
- How do I know if my phone is unlocked?
Best way to find out if your phone is locked or unlocked is to insert a SIM card from a provider other the one that the phone was originally locked to.
- Will unlocking my phone "de-brand" my phone?
No. Unlocking simply removes the network restriction on your phone. It does not make any software alterations (removing branding/customzation restrictions).
